SYNOPSIS
The tax year ends on 5th April, but that has only been the case for a little over 260 years. Why such an arbitrary date?
The truth is that it is far from arbitrary. The truth is that it was the only outcome given the astronomical reality, supercharged with well over 2,500 years of economic and religious necessity and spiced up with more than a pinch of political expediency.
The often larger than life characters that drive the story are captivating in themselves, but it is really the deeper tectonic forces which set the stage on which those actors were compelled to perform in their own idiosyncratic way. The effects reverberate down the centuries to the present day and ripple on into the future.
The story has some exciting twists and its finale may not quite be what you have been led to believe.
